Micro-Bubbles

I have thousands of tiny micro-bubbles that are coming from my return flow and my power heads and they are clouding up my tank. What can I do to eliminate this problem? Is this harmful to the inhabitants of the tank?
Thanks!

I have seen many debates over the effects of micro-bubbles on fish/inverts/corals. Some people say that micro-bubbles will harm the gills of fish or some inveribrates over time. However, the ocean if full of microbubbles formed by waves and other things. I would assume that fish in the ocean are exposed to microbubbles and they seem to be doing ok.
my skimmer used to put out many microbubbles but i added a bag of activated carbon into it and it reduced the bubble output by alot. it really depends on the powerheads and returns that you are using since some eventually stop producing bubbles while others dont.
if the powerheads you are using have an air intake valve or tube, i would suggest removing it if possible (and if it isnt a necessary part) since that may cause a decrease in the amount of bubbles they produce.

Thanks for your input Mike.

i had micro bubbles real bad. first, shake the return pumps a few times. i think perhaps a "air lock" is created in the pumps, causing some bubbles, second, your return jets, (i have 2 locklines per return lines). i will place my finger over one return, forcing all the water out of only one hole, and will notice alot of bubbles comming out, again another air lock. third, in the pet/fish store, you can find some filter in bulk, its blue on one side, white on the other. kind of looks like ac filter. i cut it to fit over my return pumps in the third chamber of my refuge. when the water comes down from my DT, it goes through my protein skimmer (bubbles), second chamber (cheato will "stain out" some bubbles) to the third chamber where it get send back to DT. i cover the the third chamber with this cut-to-fit filter, and no more bubbles!!! good luck.

Thanks for the great idea! I'll give that a try ---Kevin

I took your advice and put a filter sponge over the opening on my return pump and no more bubbles. You're my hero! Thanks for the help.
