Thought it would be fun to do some macro photos of new life forms in my tank.
Tank started with live rock on Jan 2, 2009
What are my new friends in the tank?

Looks like you and I started at a similar time. I just started my first saltwater tank for the new year too. LR was put in last week. Haven't found any new "things" living in mine yet though.

This is my first saltwater tank and I'm enjoying looking in everyday to see the changes and things that pop up.
Im learning as I go and this message board seems like a good home for questions.

Is the rock cured already?
Yeah, the first looks like a copepod, and the second is definitely a flatworm. You will likely have flatworms as long as you have pods for them to eat. But your pod population will fluctuate, so nothing to worry about yet. If you get the flatworms with red on their back then you'll have to deal with that issue, but this one looks like one of the harmless ones (at least harmless in small populations).

Will have to see what they grow up to be.
They are both VERY VERY tiny.
Your actually looking through them in those pictures, lit from behind.
The macro set-up that I have, those pictures are about the size of a match head, the whole picture.

Almost but its whats called a reverse macro.
2 lenses attached together, face to face making it big time magnification.
Same as a microscope but different ;)

This is my copepod.... it's old and I really need to take some new ones.

And my flatworm.... you can also see some little copepods to the left above and below my finger so ya can see how small these guys really are.

You can see I picked out the biggest one but they come much smaller...

I started my tank the exact same day as you and also have copepods all over my glass. Do you also have tiny flat hot air balloon shaped jelly like sacks on your glass filled with white dots? I assumed these were copepod egg sacks as they appear to empty of the white dots over time and showed up at the same time as the copepods. Just wondering.
