Help! My husband and son have an established saltwater aquarium that is used as a hospital tank. We maintain it as well as the main tank checking everything and changing water, etc. We just bought a new fish and we set it in this tank to quarantine it for a short time and as we set it in we noticed that there were a few small almost microscopic flies floating on the top surface. As we investigated further we saw that there were squiggly microscopic wormlike organisms in the water. They are so small that they have no distinct marks or shape or anything. Does anyone know what these are and are they harmful. We have plain white decorative saltwater aquarium rock on the bottom of the tank and basic filtration system. The main tank has the protein skimmer etc. all the necessary system. I think I just saw a fly in the main tank now but it is hard to see if their is any worm things as the skimmer makes enough bubbles that you can not tell. Do I have a problem or is this a normal part of the mature tank. Thanks!!!!
