Midget Nano

Ok, I've got my 18 gallon, and my ten gallon. Now, my sis is giving up her beta tank to me. HEHEHE
. Not real sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but by golly it's gonna hold saltwater. One full gallon of saltwater. It doesn't have any lights or pumps or anything, it is running an UGF but that's gonna become a WEE part when I get ahold of it.
What would yall like to see done with it? Any suggestions on what kind of equipment to use? Otherwise, it's gonna be just me and my brain, and that's dangerous. I need some "across the U.S. creativity" here.

:notsure:

if you could get a hold of jeo they could probably give some suggestions, their 3/4 g tank looks pretty cool if you haven't seen it already do a search on their name.

I had considered setting up a one gallon nano and I had been planning on putting some LS, a small piece of LR and a small carbon filter in there as well as a cleaner shrimp and a fire shrimp... a setup that I was told would work fine. Shrimp don't put near the kind of bioload on a tank that a fish would...

A group of sexy shrimp and some kind of small low-light coral would be cool.

OK, well I put about a pound and a half of white oolitic sand and a .75 lb piece of LR in it to get the sand to seed. Just for now I have a Catalina 180 PH on its lowest setting circulating the water. The majority of the sandstorm dropped in about 10 minutes. I'll try and get some pics of the initial setup before I go any further with it. I'm gonna let it cycle and sit for a while since I can't afford a light fixture or anything else for it at the moment.

sounds cool .... Maybe look @ some aggressive snails or something weird like that ... or a small chocolate chip star .... something weird like that would be kind of neat!

So you aren't thinking a nano "reef"? I like the idea of aggressive snails. What did you have in mind, the only one I can think of off of the top of my head is a limpet or a whelk, but I don't find them attractive, and wouldn't know where to find them? I like that idea because then I wouldn't have to find pc's to fit over the top.

i wouldnt waste th effort- corals would be depleting elements very fast in that tank - you would have to do very frequent waterchanges to get good growth rates- Just MO

Well the midget is definately cycling now. Yeah I was wondering how any kind of life form could live in one of these, but I may still try a mini shrimp tank or something.

Can't remember but there are some red footed aggressive snails. I read somewhere (maybe in reef forum) about aggressive snail that is pretty decent sized .... I would do a quick search and see (if I think of it later on I will do one and see what I can find!!).
a Nano tank does not have to be a nano reef!

How about a cowrie snail of some sort. The tiger is very nice looking shell and carnivours - and several other species of cowries are omnivores ....
just some thoughts!

Don't Tiget Cowries get pretty big though? I know it doesn't have to be a reef, I was just hoping it could be one, I have a reef fetish.

Hmm well in a 1 gallon a tiger cowrie will eventual get up to 4 inches or so (found a site selling them on-line)..... if you got a small one it would eventuall outgrow your tank .....
In a 1 gallon tank you could do a small Sun Coral .... but feeding it woudl require removing it from the tank and putting it in a bowl every time you wanted to feed it ....
Same site I found had pacific Conch snails which were not nearly as pretty but stayed smaller .....
What about a small interesting hermit crab??

Yeah, my crappy LFS orders the Halloween hermits every now and then. I was kind of partial to the electric blue hermits myself.
