Midnight Trawl

Tonight/this morning I went out and did a bottom trawl for one of my classes. It was a lot of fun although it was raining most of the time so I didn't get my camera out. Here are a couple pics of some stuff we saw.
Pic 1 and 2 are of a Ratfish...relative of a shark; very cool looking creature
Pic 3 Shiner perch, there sure were lots of these, we had sample some of their stomachs too...kinda an interesting process
Pic 4- This harbor seal was following the boat and was eating thrown over perch
There were a lot of other cool things such as a Cabezon which weighed a little over 10lbs, sturgeon poachers, Buffalo sculpins as well as many others, plenty of Soles and Sandabbs and some nice large pacific sea cucumbers. Overall it was a fun night. Kinda depressing that some many fish end up dying just for science. :( It was a good learning experience though. And with that...its 4:10 in the morning and I'm off to bed.
