Hey Mike,
Tell me more about the 2 x 65 watt 24" lighting setup you're trying to get rid of. I might be interested.

Slothy,
I think he said he got it from you (if I'm not mistaken). He said it didn't fit in his canopy right.
Jon, ya stinker... trying to beat me to the punch?! I believe he said $125 shipping included.
:p

Hey, if anyone else has a used lighting setup to get rid of, lemme know.
My tank specs are below... I'm looking for decent wattage in the 24" range.

well deb, if it is the one from slothy it wouldnt work anyway, caus ei need a retro kit. im pretty sure the one slothy had was a self contained unit with reflector, etc, so have at it!

It is a full setup, no retro. I didn't measure before I bought it from slothy, bad on me  It is EXACTLY as he described it though. It has a 10k and actinic light in it. I put it up on ---- as well. Looking to get what I paid for it $125 SHIPPED. Here's the link ...

I guess people have started bidding. There are pics there as well.
If you want the hood I built that it is in, I can add that for an extra $75 plus shipping. It is black with 3 3" fans for cooling, plus an opening for a 4th. It also has a vent on the side for the fans on the light to exhaust. It has a cut out in the back for a 7.5w "moon light" bulb as well.
Slothy ... great to do business with you. Honesty is a HUGE plus in my book. I'll call Bruno, just try to stay out of the windows for a day or so :D j/k But really, I do appreciate the GREAT transaction !!!

Question (I'm blonde; bear with me):
Right now I just have the generic plastic hood with a 24" flourescent tube. I know I'll need to get a glass cover for the tank, right? Will your setup rest directly on top of the glass cover, or will I need to do something else?
And what exactly is a "retro" kit and how does it differ from this one?
Thanks,
~D~

For a 24", you won't NEED a glass top. You can purchase the legs for the light ($20) from a LFS or use wood blocks or something like that to elevate it if you want. It can sit on the glass, but there won't be uch cooling between the lights and water. If the tank is 24", it can rest on the edges. The light is right at 24". There is a glass splash guard on the lights though. If you look at the ---- pictures, you can see the snug fit I have in my canopy. You will need a little room on the right for the internal fans to exhaust their heat.

I don't have any type of canopy; that's why I was asking...
I don't want to spend the $$ if it's not going to work (know what I mean? ;) )
The plastic rim on the top of my tank measures 30 1/8" on the outside and the inside ledge is 29 1/2" across.
Any thoughts?

get glass tops. They are about $15 online. Or you can go to Lowe's and get a piece of glass cut for $5-7. For your application, you would need the glass tops and I would recommend something to elevate it off (wood blocks or whatever) the glass. The light is VERY noticle between the 24" normal flo and these. I had a 24" normal flo and this GLOWS through the windows after the sun goes down (WITH a canopy and the back of the glass painted). MAJOR improvement !!! :D
On a sideline, I now wish I had asked what you have. It was exactly what slothy said. I figured he was rounding up to make even numbers. NOPE.
As for the retro, without a hood, you out of luck. A retro kit is a reflector mounted to something with a remote ballast and endcaps. Without a canopy, you have nothing to mount the retro to.

Ok, so let me see if I understand this...
For my tank, I would need to get a glass top (I think p*tco has them for $15-20). Then I need something to elevate the light fixture up off the glass... is this right?
Also, it says that you can adjust the lights individually and there is a place for a "moon bulb". What's that? With the 2 x 65 watts, this would be enough for low/med light corals, yes??
As for the canopy you offered, what are its dimensions? Is it too small for my tank?
I'm definitely interested...

well when i had it on my tank, it sat right on the glass... didnt have any heat issues from the lights at all..

The canopy is too small for your tank :( You would need the glass tops, but as for elevation, slothy said he had no heat problems. I haven't either, but I never sat them on the glass. You could always put them on the glass and see if you get a temperature rise. And adjust as necessary. Depending on your location, I could build you a canopy if you want. As for the moon light, no "build in" spot for one. But I could "make" one that attaches before shipment if you want. It is just a small blue light bulb. As for corals, I'd think low to medium light corals would be fine. You can look at slothy's tank (link in his sig) and he grew that. I literally got them last Wednesday from him.

Slothy,
If you're out there, can you tell me how those lights worked for you? What did you keep (corals)? Also, how tall is your tank that you had the lights on. How old are they?
Mike,
e-mail me and let's talk: gr8blu1@pacbell.net
Thanks,
