min requirements for a hospital tank.

I want to have a hospital / quaranteen tank standing by based on what I have read here. I can get a 10 gal tank from my LFS for $10, is that big enough? I would only have one fish at a time of course. What else would that type of tank need? I figure a light, heater, some CC, and a small mech filter, but what type?
Thanks-

Hi JunkF15
If you can, spend a couple extra dollars for a 15g tall. The little extra space helps a lot.
As far as mech. filter, I've had good luck with the AquaClear 150 for that size tank. It has a compartments for both a sponge filter and carbon. Price ~$15.
I don't think you need the cc (or any substrate). Perhaps someone else can give their opinion on this.
cheers.....

No substrate and you can certainly do without the expense of a light...as most hospital tanks and fish treatments will require lights off anyway.
If you have an infestation of ick, more than one fish will need to be treated. I setup my QT 20L for under $50. In small tanks lenght is better than height.

I have in mine......
-10 Gallon Tank
-Heater
-Bio-Wheel
-Carbon Filter Media
-Bio-Balls From My Show Tank
-Flourscent Day-Glo Bulb
(My filter is built into the hood, its a Eclipse Tank)
Never use a substrate, it can interfere with medications etc.....
