min tank for a lobster

just like it says what is the min size for any lobster species i could keep......im wanting to put one in my nano but could transfer it to my 100g if it outgrew it (dont want to put one into the 100g right away b/c of my hawkfish) also what is the life expectancy of the lobsters available for the aquarium?

I would suggest getting one as small as possible as they will grow. We had one in the tank I took care of at work and it grew, and grew, and grew, molting on a regular basis. If you give it a good home it will keep on growing. Our lobster was a good cleaner as he would eat fish that died when we overstocked the 250 gal DT. I am not sure though that he didn't catch and kill the fish instead of scavenge them.

thanx clownfish once it outgrows the 10 will it be ok in my 100 with my flame hawk, 6 line wrasse, blue devil damsel and Gsm clown

There is a very good chance that the lobster will eat most of your fish. Any fish under about 6-7" I would be very concerned with. Just because it says reef lobster does not mean it is reef safe. I told a freind this and he did not listen to me. His purple reef lobster eat a 6 lined, 2 firefish, a neon goby, and another goby. He also took a hunk out of his Coral Beauty. He had to tear apart his entire tank to get it out. The whole time I was helping him I felt like saying I told you so.

Wow, they always looked so cute in the store. Never knew they were such voracious fish-eaters.
As morval says, I guess the minimum tank size would be a 2 gallon pot.

ya i suggest just spending the money on a 35-40 gal and getting a mated pair...if you want or you could just go with a 10gal nad hope hes a midget and doesnt grow lol...

My purple lobster cost me $170 in livestock.
They are NOT to be trusted.
And if you want to risk it, be sure to feed them every day.
If food is not openly given to them, they are astonishingly efficient at obtaining some themselves
(or so my personal experiences have gone to prove).

Lobsters are excellent hunters and most species have nasty claws. My fish like to sleep near the bottom of my tank and lobsters are nocturnal so it would be easy pickings.
Your lobster will hide most of the time FYI.

were you going for hte purple reef lobster or the lobster, if you go with the reef lobster it has not claws..or any type of "pinchers"
