minimum tank size for 2+ large angels

Since there seems to be a lot of disagreement about this, I was curious what the general consensus is for a minimum tank size to house 2 or more large angels with a reasonable chance for peace?

i agree with ozadars...2 large angels will fight in any enclosed system that most of us can provide...very territorial fish.
you could keep just 1 in a min. tank size of 150gal IMO

For what it's worth, I did have several reasons for jumping the gun and getting the Juv Imp.
1. I am upgrading to a 240-300 gal long before the juv becomes adult.
2. I have seen lots of literature indicating that as long as the angels are different genus and appearance and size, it should be ok.
3. I already have 2 alpha-type fish. The passer is not the king of the tank, the powder blue tang unquestionably is. I have read numerous places that in terms of conflic avoidance, 3 is better than 2.
Keeping an eye on things. Thanks for the feedback

I just wonder what some of these "book warriors" would do if someone published somehthing saying that angels are not necessarily more aggressive to other angels than any other fish...
MichaelStern- Would you please email me saltyboy21@yahoo.com
Your info might be useful for my upcoming work. Could you also send me a few pictures of your tank.
jwtrogan44- you might just get what you asked for... still working on it. ;)

Considering how big a full size angel truely gets i wouldn't put one in less than a 180.... I saw quite a few at the coney island aquarium in a fake reef and there were maybe 3 or 4 total in there from what i remember. They get FRIKIN huge. I mean open a spiral notebook up and thats how big angels get one day basically. Thats a big fish....
I will agree with the different genus thing and even different oceans if you can. Holocanthus and the centro types. I think a 240 would be nice for 2. I wouldn't cram them in there more than that and the bigger the better.... Hell they come in mated pairs sometimes :) Saw a pair of french angels once, beautiful at 350 dollars.....
They are the reason i can't decide on a fish only or reef one day.

When I went snorkling up in the North west of Western Australia, I saw a quite a few very large and very impressive Koran and 6 Bar angels. One 6 bar would of been at least 20 inches long. I noticed that allot of these guys were reasonably close together ~ 15ft away from each other and no aggression. In one instance there were two Koran Angels about 2-3 feet away from each other. Again no aggression which surprised me. I thought I would just add my ONLY experience of seeing large angels in the wild.

I've seen several pairs of Angels in the wild. I will note that most of the pairs that I saw where either French or Greys, and they where normally in the same areas. However when I saw some Blue's and some Queens, they where always away from the other species. I think that the family Holocanthus are more aggressive than some of the other's. Either way I still don't think that keeping more than 1 large angel in anything less than say a 1000 gallon system would be wise. The majority of them get on the rather large side, and need plenty of room to roam. You may be able to keep a couple of small juvi's for a while, but it would probably get to a point where you would have to seperate them.
