today i got a small yellow-tailed damsel and a humbug damsel (my 1st inhabitants) and now the blue one is no where to be found! i have heard of mantis shrimp and other things eating fish in the night (and i know the other damsel didn't completely eat the other one without a trace.)
he's not on the floor or in the overflow box. i have no idea where he is. within 10 hrs of putting him in there and he is GONE!
what else could it be? i have about 78 lbs of lr... what else could have gotten him?
anything at all...any feedback. is my other one gonna come up gone now? do i need to empty out lr to find some beast of a creature? ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
thanks

How old is your tank? Also, what are your water chem readings?
I hate to be the only negative poster so far but something along those lines could be culprit. 10 hours however seems like and awful short time for a fish to totally decompose.
Most likely however he is just hiding in your rockwork :D
(but it is always good to rule out the above first)
Cheers!

well, now i feel a bit stupid...
ya'll were right.
i got up this morning and he was out swimming around the rockwork! i always knew they could hide, but last night i looked (in what i thought was every nook and cranny) in those rocks with a flashlight and even picked up a rock and he was nowhere. i mean, he is bright blue with a bright yellow tail and i couldn't see even a piece of him.
and today, my kitten jumped INTO my tank. he sneaked up behind me and jumped in before i could catch him while i was feeding...of course he splashed all around to get out and we grabbed him immediately. the fish were scared, but seem fine now...so i guess i am doomed in this hobby already. i put months into saving $ and reading books and there was nothing about cats jumping in! i wonder how bad that will mess up the water! am i the only one this ever happened to??????
well, i guess there is no mantis shrimp or some snail or crab or worm eating my fish (at least not last nite!)

ROFL! :D That is too funny about the kitten! Don't feel silly about the fish I have done that before too. I had a fish that was swimming around fine for a couple days then it suddenly dissapeared I swore it must have been dead then all of a sudden several days later it was swimming around just like before.

HAHAHA that is the funniest post i have read yet!
I know the feeling of wondering if something died, if I did something wrong.. ect
but the cat part. Well I have a pretty playful kitty and I think I am going to watch her... she always sits REAL close to the tank when I am doing a water change ... now I KNOW WHAT SHE"s thinkinG
LOL

Well I for one am glad that your fish is O.K!!
And that is awful funny about the kitten, I'm glad he/she is ok as well. I have three cats and the youngest of them is always trying to get into
the tank.... not sure what she intends to do once she gets in there... but I give her an 'A' for the effort!
Cheers!
