Go with about 1.5 lbs of LR per gallon and at least a 4 inch sand bed. Adding a skimmer would be good also. You don't need anything else in the system for filtration.
I would wait and read more before you jump in and spend money. Knowledge is the difference between having fun and going crazy from constant set backs and having to upgrade later. I'm not trying to discourage you any but only trying to help from my own experience.
