I changed to Reef Crystals from IO now I have to add appox 1 1/2 cups more of salt to 5g of water to get the mixture up to where I normally have it. Is this normal?

It shouldnt, but then I dont now the density of salt in the two mixtures,, what are you using to measure S.G.? and are you letting the salt completely dissolve 24hrs run through a power head??

Weird. Same mfg; I think Reef Crystals is just Instant Ocean with some more trace elements needed in reef tanks. The (1/2 cup/gallon) instructions the same. Mixing with a powerhead is always recommended, but it won't have the drastic effect you're experiencing. Must be something else that's changed. Might want to be sure your refractometer or hydrometer is accurate.

I recaibrated the refractometer seams to be working ok. I mix the salt mix 24hrs then check it. I'll mix another batch in a couple days and recheck the readings
