planning on mixing salt in a rubbermaid 20g at a time.
what should I use to mix it...
I have Maxi Jets - either 600,900 or 1200 and a mag 7.
which one?

use the largest one that gets you good movement so the salt can fully dissolve and aerate it good.

might as well use a few then...
mixed 20g with my mag7, maxi-jet 1200 and 600.
been mixed for 30-45 min...that enough time?
just read the refractometer : 1.025
think I'll shoot for 1.024

Several people on this site will say let the salt mix for 24 hrs. before using. As long as the salinity matches your tank water then you don't really need to wait that long. IMO.

Let it mix overnight - unless you're in a hurry - and you shouldn't be in a hurry - unless it's an emergency.
Is this an emergency water change ?

Okay - brand new tank is a little differnent than adding new saltwater to exisiting tank.
Sorry - I was unaware of this ;)

where is the water coming from? I use RO/DI water, and I've had the best luck (i.e. the best water quality) when I let the RO/DI water airiate for 24 hours, then add the salt and let that airiate for another 24 hours.
HTH.

mine...
RO/DI - to rubbermaid in 20g batches - mix in salt - use pumps powerheads for an hr or 2, then put it in the new tank...which has purearagonite in there...(was advised to add sand first)
it can airate all it wants for the next 5 days or so...won't get any LR till at least then.
