mixing saltwater

I have a big plastic barrel that collects my rodi water. I add the salt directly to the barrel, plug up the heater and pump and let it mix overnight. The problem is that it doesn't look thoroughly dissolved. Is this normal? I've looked real close and it's not air bubbles, it's definitely tiny white specks of salt. This time I'm using Instant Ocean.

With Instant Ocean, try buffering the water and aerating for 24 hours before adding the salt mix. It helps.
Or switch to Red Sea Coral Pro salt. Since I did that, no problems.

Be carefull if you try buffing while mixing. Some buffers will cause precipitation and you will have cloudy water and a white film on everything.

Actually the pump been mixing at least 36 hours, maybe even more (don't remember lunch, never mind when I started this batch). O.K., won't buy any more IO. But I have a BIG bucket to use up first. I'll just let it keep on mixing!
TheGrog, does aerating do the buffering? What's buffering?
Thank for all the feedback.
