I got a 8g Biocube a month ago. I want stronger lights on it. I was thinking about taking off the hood and putting a clamp on on it because I like the look of it. What do you all suggest I do? Please give any input or experiences you all have had.
thanks

I don't think there is much you can do. Unfortunately even a 70 watt would be too much light. Now if you could rig something to raise the light further from the tank you may be able to get it too work. It would be cheaper to just get another tank.

yea I looked at some of the 70 watt vipers and they are as much as my tank.
But I really don't want to get a new tank. So do you think the 70 watts will be way to much for my 8g, unless I have it far from the surface? What light did you choose for your 14g subie?

A 70 watt will be fine. There are a few people who put 250 watt MH over a 10 gallon tank. So, get a 70 watt MH and put it like 4 inches away from the water surface. If it heats up the tank, put it a little higher, ect, ect. Good luck!

I do think it will be ok, like CK said you will just have to adjust it so the heat doesn't get out of hand. As for my tank, I am in the process of looking for a 16.5 inch sunpod. They are uber hard to find though, at least local to me anyhow.

I'm not crazy about the viper, but I used to have the 70 watt sunpod MH over my 8 gallon BC and I loved it! 70 watts is definitely not too much light.

ok I looked up the 70 watt sunpods and I can't find anything shorter than 20". Is this the smallest they make? I don't think this will fit on my 8 Biocube because it's not that long
