Molding Choices

Trying to get some ideas on some neat looking molding/trim. These are the 2 that I'm currently looking at using on my stand build, but would love to see others ideas or hear your thoughts.....Post some pics and show off that trim/molding.....

Which counter top did you end up choosing?
I actually like both, but think the second one has more design that might compete with the actual fish tank. Maybe?

Actually I chose to go with the brown speckled(what I'm calling it) because it was free, and as suggested won't show the wear as the solid black would have.....The average person honestly would never really see the countertop, because it will be back in the fishroom. The molding I'm trying to get ideas on what I'd like to use on the stand and walls around the front of the tank from the actual viewing area......
You seem to have a keen up on clean...you have to have or seen some personal favorites???? Doesn't even have to be your stand or canopy or design. Just something you've seen that looks neat....

Hmmm, I'll have to keep my eye out. I usually don't really pay attention to the tank stank itself. Mine is hideous right now, I have just the custom 2x4 frame in my living room. The tank was getting too hot so we pulled the entire shell off the frame to allow more air flow under the tank. I don't even want people in my house right now because it looks so bad! I can't wait for our house to be finished so we can move out of this dreadful basement apartment.
Personally, I like the first molding better. I think it's a cleaner design and just looks really nice.

I agree, the first one won't draw attention away from your tank, and looks simple to clean :)

I personally like both, and have used both on different builds. Sometimes simpler is better?? Not worried much about cleaning it, since maintenance and such will done done from behind and planning on using the bar top epoxy on the stand which will look like glass. Keep th ideas thoughts coming!!!!!

Have you considered making your own molding...something a little more unique that not everybody has?

I have looked at different profiles....Just I choke when I go into WoodCraft and start pricing different bits....Anything in particular in mind? That's kinda why I'm contemplating doing something rounded on the corner....Looking for something a bit different. Any suggestions?

I know...those molding bits a pretty pricey.
Nothing perticular in mind but there's always ideas floating around up there. For my build for instance I'm kicking around the idea of creating my own crown molding by simply taking some half inch oak boards...routing one edge then taking some pre-milled decorative molding like dentil and or maybe the rope stuff like what's in one of the above pics and gluing it on...then above that maybe glue on a differenty type of molding, maybe something with curves (rounded) that's a little bit thicker and then top it off with a header that sticks out a little bit almost like a mantel or something along those lines. I don't know...just something different...this way I figure I can use some things that are already out there...they're cheap but I can come up with my own configurations for them.
I think there are lots of ways you can do something eligant with clean lines and not overly busy. When I think busy...I think decorative molding on every corner of every edge all over the place. Detail in moderation just gives it that little something extra to admire.
I'm still trying to get a grasp on what your thoughts are for this rounded corner. You talking about the viewing side of the cabinet outside the fishroom right? Are you thinking or making a curved door or something more like a rounded edge/corner? Either or would deffinately be a nice touch. Are you going to stain?

Your following me on the rounded door/curve on the viewing end. I started playing with some scrap, but went brain dead from work an haven't tinkered with it lately. I will have to take some pics of what I have mocked up to give an idea......

A little progression on the molding/trim work....Still need and looking for everyones opinion.....Here is an update of what I have done so far. The first pic will show the corner cap that I'm currently working on, and have several ideas as to how to finish it off. Nothing is tacked into place, so easy to rearrange and keep working......
First pic is of the corner cap I'm working and the remaining pics are of my molding/trim options so far......Lets hear some critiques!!!!!!
