Monitoring activity on your PC

I was having some disk thrashing on my box at home, and couldn't figure out what could be causing it. I used all my 'tools' I have to insure it wasn't a Bot or some other hack, but nothing popped up. Then I remembered SysInternals has a free and neat tool called Process Monitor that you can watch all disk, registry, network, and process activity in realtime. My problem ended up being my antivirus doing some checks, and also Windows 7 doing some screwy checks of its own. Here's a link to the tool. Give it a run and see what it's about. If you're not having any issues, it's a good tool to get a snapshot of your box so you'll know what normal processes are running:

I've been using Avast! But I also like AVG. Both free version have kept my machine virus free as far as I can tell.

Good choice. I use the same. Norton's is the worst antivirus and a big time system hog.
