Even though the ruler was there in the pic, it didn't hit home as to how big that was till I gabbed my own ruler. Also, ThaNgBom here's the pic without the article :eek: .........

I wouldnt be surprised if theyre were mutants in the ala wai canal. That was the dirties most disgusting canal ive ever seen. Id always see the homeless fishing in that canal which made me sick but then i kinda felt sorry for them.

There is a guy here in Memphis who has one of those in a species only tank.
If I am not mistaken that species of Mantis shrimp does not use the "punch", so there is no risk of it breaking glass. They do however have very large pincers "just like a praying mantis".
The LFS has a couple from the things last molt...about 3.5 inches each I would say.
avbryce1 can vouch for me, he's been there. The pic and molted pincers are on the side of the cash register.
I'll try and get a pic of the pic on my next trip.

my daddy says ''back in the homeland (viet nam) we use to eat those things all the time.. they are great to eat.. they perdy big but not that big.. about 8'' long'' ...

at my lfs we have one thats probably 10 inches, we have him in like a 7g acrylic tank. Its pretty sweet. Were trying to sell him for $36. Hes really pretty, mostly white with purple/green.

LOL, I dont think it would stay in a tank!!! LOL
And I do think that Mantis Shrimps do have the hard calcarious clubs they use.. i saw it on discovery channel!

There are many different kinds of mantis shrimps. The one here may have em though, never seen it in person. I guess they have both those and pincers.
