What is the minimum amount of lighting one of these can be kept under?
are they strictly MH? or could they be done under t-5?

You can keep everything under t5's. Don't listen to anyone who tells you different. I have clams, sps, lps, zoas, but no softies. I have all t5's and I've had great growth with them.

only if the t5 fixture has individual reflectors, or else the sps or clams will suffer and not thrive. i'd recommend at least 6 bulbs for t5. but that really depends on the size of the tank. monti cap is a considered an easy sps coral. it can actually do ok under pc, but t5 and mh will be best. if mh, place near middle or bottom. t5, pretty much anywhere.

I have an 8 bulb t5. It has one reflector that has been bent into indiviual parts. So its one piece of metal with 8 different areas for bulbs. I have it over a 75 gallon. I have my caps in middle/lower part of the tank and they are doing well.
