What kind of monti is it? Is it close to any other coral? What is your dkh? Monti's do not tolerate swings in dkh.

dkh aka alkalinity is the measure of bicarbonate and carbonate content in the water. Normal range is 8-12. if its too high your calcium level will go low. and if your calcium is too high say above 500, your alk will drop. My purple monti cap gives me fits sometimes, it will turn white in a few spots, but a water change later, and it colors back up..

I have this problem as well. Every now and then my monti's (caps and digis) will decide to start bleaching. The last time it happened it was a pH problem. It's actually happening in my tank now, with one of my digi's near the base and a cap that was the original coral to start doing this. I haven't tested the water yet, I guess I will do it later today.
