Walmart sells LED nightlights in different colors that are popular.

This was a popular DIY last year there were many threads on it. Myself included when the walmart ones were discovered.
The nightlights used are common and available BUT the method they plug into 110 is inconvenient for larger tanks unless you want to mount a office surge strip (the ones with the 12 inch spacing) along the inside of your canopy.
Still sounds cheap-
Office lightstrip 110 x 4ft long. - 15 bucks.
5 nightlights x 3 bucks- 15 bucks.
total is still only 30 dollars for the build but at that price why not just look around at somewhere like Frys electronics and get the parts to truly build it yourself.
Extreme low voltage and daisychained assembley makes for a nice safe DIY build to be proud of when showing off the tank. Will also perform better in the long run. Looking quite professional.
Oh yeah and its cheap to build from parts from Fry's
JMO but do a search and see some of the other threads from other members builds using nightlights.
