How do they work?
When should they be on?
which ones will work safely?

Moonlights are just white/blue LEDs that give a nice effect for night-time viewing. If you're handy you can make your own but there are strips and single bulb units available.
I leave mine on 24/7. LEDs have a long life, use little power, and produce little heat. If you wanted to put them on a timer that'll work too.

I paid 17 each for mine but you get them cheaper online. I had mine on a timer with the rest of my lights but the timer kept failing on me, so as of right now they are on all the time. makes viewing after lights out a lot easier

You can even get blue rope light from Lowe's or HD and use that. We may go that way with our 150.

Thank you I will look at both as I want an even glow but,still want to sleep on a dark room.

Any L.E.D.s you would recomend. plug in for a timer ?

some if not all the nano tanks come with them dont they?? my biocube has 2.. one works one doesnt...
