I am interested in moonlights for my reef tank. I am wondering if they really serve any benifit to the tank. And if they do are there certain brands or things i should be looking for?
No real benefit. They are for humans more than anything else. Really fancy systems can mimic lunar cycles which can make corals spawn, but in a closed system that can be bad.

In my tank, my moonlights actually make several of my corals (GSP, Ricordia, and Zoas glow in neon colors). May not benefit the corals, but sure is cool to look at!
my buddy has a set that is on a 30 day cycle and adjusts the brightness based on the moon cycle. I've never seen them at night to see how the tank looks, but i've heard they can help clowns to spawn and things too

Mine are set to the lunar cycle. My clown pairs produce eggs like clock work. every 14 days.

If your good at DIY projects, you can take a diode with a couple resistors and string it up to a 12volt adaptor...
if you are costco member then go to the warehouse and check it out in the light bulbs section they have some LED strip you can use for moonlight $49.99 SUPER BRIGHT. not just add color to your corals but also add colors to your fish...make them look like glow in the dark fishes
