moorish idol need advise please ??

Was given a moorish idol and was wanting to know about feeding i hear that they are to keep him hard to keep because they are hard to feed but i am going to do my best to keep him alive any tips would be great, ps he has settled in already feeding off the live rock thats a good sign fingers crossed

If all he is eating is bits off of the LR You may want to find a place to take him because he isn't adapted to eating prepared foods and is likely to starve to death. They feed on sponges in the wild and even captive ones that will take some prepared food don't last long.

I i saw him eating at the fish shop he seemed fine .if he has no chance maybe i should take him back??

Yes, take him back, buying that kind of fish only encourages shops to get more in. He is not likely to survive. What was he eating at the store? They do seem fine at first and may live a month or two nibbling on this and that. They will not get the nutrition they need and will starve to death shortly.Why did the store give him to you?

Buying a fish is like buying anything else. You dont want a crappy product thats going to die on you after a few months....or not suit your needs or not meet your expectations.
If people keep buying crappy products, then they will just keep selling them...
Always best to research the quality and performance of any product and not buy it just because the salesman says its great or it looks good.

Please don't take him to a lfs. At least in your tank he'll have the advice of all of us. His best bet is at a zoo or government aquarium.
You say he was given to you, but you saw him at the LFS? :thinking:

a lady brought him in and they really can't resell him so she they asked if we wouldn't him so we said we would give it ago but now im thinking what am i going to do i will see if they will take him or another store i don't like to watch fish die. thanks

Thanks for the advice but they said take him back to the aquariam so i did.
