Moorish Idol

Does anyone have, had, or know of someone who has had a moorish idol? I know they are extremely delicate. I was just curious, plus I don't think anyone has ever mentioned that fish on this board.

This is a species that should be left in the ocean. They have a terrible survival rate in captivity but I do see them for sale at some lfs. I read about a public aquarium in Hawaii that has kept some for years but that is a huge aquarium that exchanges its water with the ocean everyday I believe.

I agree with keeping them in the wild. My lfs gets them in. As a matter of fact, they have two that have been in one tank for over a month and today I noticed they had received 3 more. Anyone else ever hear of someone even attempting to keep one in their tank?

It's not that they aren't hardy, they mate for life and when they're taken from the ocean their mate is separated from the other. They die of lonliness. If the two are shipped together then they would survive. A lot of marine fish reach over a foot so that has nothing to do w/ their hardiness. TJ
