First off, that eel grows extrodinarilly fast and needs at least a 180 to house it for a good part of its life. Granted, eels arent very active, but this is the exception. This thing could get 8' long. As far as lights are concerned, I feel that any type of regular lighting would be sufficient. Reef lights or VHOs would definately damage it s nocturnal vision. Stay away from these. If you want a definate answer, ask polarpooch or GKP, they have one.

I would assume almost a full foot. My experience with that eel is limited, but please only buy one if you already have a system running that is big enough to house the monster by itself. They will eat just about anything kept with them.

Here is a pic of my green he is over 3 feet. How fast they grow depends on diet and water conditions. this pic is in a 125 gallon I have bigger tanks I will be moving him to soon. Mine grows about 1 inch per month on a heavy diet. as you can see he can very easaly reach the top. He is with a tessalata and was with a full grown black edge ell untill I forgot to feed him on his perfect weekly time so he ate the black edge. I feed mine every sunday. I forgot one sunday and by mon night the other eel was gone.
PS.... they need whole fish to eat, they need the bacteria in the fishes guts not only for dietairy needs but it is bacteria that makes them green.

They do grow fairly fast (unlike some eels, like our Tesselata, which hasn't grown at that fast a rate--I never have figured this out!). It eats a LOT. Expect at least a 6' eel if you get one. Unlikely to get to 8', but it is possible!
I'd just go with the 180....save yourself the hassle. You could get away with a 125 (before GKP and I got that green beast it was crammed into a little tank at a petstore...don't do that to the eel!).
Lights, just regular day light tank lights is all we use.

All morays are aggressive, but people have very good luck with chainlinks.
What size tank are you thinking of for an eel? If you have an eel that's already 2ft, you need a big tank now....but if you haven't selected your eel yet, there are plenty of eels that can do very well in smaller tanks.
Check out Reef Fishes, Vol. One by Scott Michaels for great info on eel species, tank size and care requirements.
