Yep your crazy, no I'm just kidding ;)
I agree that the mandarins are very pretty but there are many other fish that I think are prettier, course thats just my opinion. I personaly like the angelfish very much.

I'm with you on that! As soon as my tank has a sufficient pod population there is a reserved space in my tank for one. I've always loved them and can't wait to get one now that I know what I'm doing, thanks to everyone around here. Unfortunately I killed many of them years ago when I was in high school and had a tank. Obviously the guy at the LFS didn't tell me anything about pods and I had a few starve to death from eating brine shrimp junk food. This time I'm going to wait and get it right.

Beautiful fish indeed, though I don't have a sufficient or appropriate environment for one. But I would rate it behind angels though, especially emperors and of course my queen! :D

Very nice fish to look at without a doubt.
Some of the angels and even a few tangs are very nice looking also.

Beautiful fish. BUT...I gotta say ours is in a tank with a healthy flame angel, and everyone that comes to see the tank stares at the flame much more then the mandarin. I'm kinda torn...

they go wherever they want! i think that these little guys truly are gorgeous, but after diving with a school of french angels, i have a new respect for them. nothing is cooler that seeing the fish in thier natural environment, and diveing with a school of like 20 dinner plate sized fish was just breathtaking!
good luck

what is a pod population? How do you get one? I must have a mandirin as well. but dont want to kill the little guy. What should i do before i buy one. Ive got a cycled tank now with a few critters and polyps

Pods are little white bugs that live in the sand and live rock. To have a good population you should have a DSB or at least some live sand, and you should have lots of LR. Pods are one of the main foods of the mandarin and to keep one alive you probably need pods.

For me it's a toss up between mandarins and moorish idols. I think I favor the moorish idols because I don't have one yet. I'm a bit scared. If it died, I'd probably bail out of saltwater altogether.
I've had one mandarin die...and I knew it would die when I bought it. It had been in the LFS tank too long, it's sides were caved in. I brought it home hoping to give it a chance. It was the prettiest one I've ever seen. I have another one now, and I love it...but the first one was primarily orange...you don't see that very often.

For me, it's a toss-up between my mandarin, my Australian harlequin tusk wrasse, and my CB angel. Pretty tough decision...

I think madarins have the most interesting colration of any fish but they still aren't as good as butterflies and angels, but thats just me. I would love to have one.
