I would just set it on the sand bed and let it do its thing unless its an encrusting brain, but if its the size of a golf ball I am assuming its rounghly similar in shape, which makes it unlikley to be encrusting. it'll grow its own skeleton with out the need to attach itself to a rock.

actually it is encrusting, i just used the size as a reference. lol
but its just starting to grow out over the edges, will it grow its own skeleton?
