So this weekend Detroit is the Electronic Music capital of the world.
The Movement festival starts on Saturday and there will be thousands of people from all over the world coming to Detroit.
I have the pleasure of going for the whole weekend. My wife and I have her folks coming into town and watching our little girls, so we can go downtown and enjoy some music. I am just so darn excited.
Do we have any electronic music fans on here?? I know that this is not everyone's cup of tea, but after going last year I have learned not to judge peoples music taste by age or looks. It takes all kinds.
Anyways, I was lucky enough to get all access passes for the entire weekend. We were unlucky however when it comes to hotels. The only ones left when we tried to book were like $500.00/ night, and that ain't gonna happen. But my brother-in-law has a nice sized boat and we found a marina within walking distance of Hart Plaza (where the festival is located) that has guest slips for the weekend. $60.00/ night Wahoo!!
Sorry, I am just so excited I have to share.

Oh wow, they're still putting that on up there? Im not a huge fan of the electronic scene but I went to one probably about ten years or so ago. I think it was the second year that they had it. It was a pretty good time but it got a little crazy. Lots of young punks runnin around actin the fool doin all kinds of drugs. And I start to lose my patience with people like that pretty fast.
My girlfriend at the time and I were walkin and these two little punks walked right through us and deliberatly bumped us. One of them reached down and grabbed my girlfriend in her ummm happy place. At first I didnt realize he did it so I just blew it off. Then she told me and I turn around and this preppy little punk is trying to blow kisses at me while making gang signs with his hands. So I walkwd over and asked what his problem was. He thought he was gonna act tough and get in my face so I grabbed the guy by the throat and started choking him out. Realized he wasnt putting up much of a fight and he was high out of his mind I just let em go. But yeah, other then that it was a good time haha.
Make sure to take plenty of ice cold beverage with you. When I was there they had a real shortage of availabe water and beverage to go around. I always liked the down town country ho downs. To me its a nicer, funner crowd to be around.

I hear you about the punks. Yup lots of them from Hazel Park. And the drugs...NOT my scene either. All I need is a couple of cocktails and I am good to go!!
My brother works for Paxahau, the company that took over like 7 years ago. He got me the all access passes. I am more interested in maybe meeting some of the artists and just having a good time with the wife and some friends.
I got to walk around Hart Plaza yesterday while they were setting stuff up and it is cool to see the behind the scenes stuff.
The people watching is pretty crazy. Last year I saw some of the craziest outfits being worn by all kind of people. For example, you would see some super in shape guys and girls wearing next to nothing, and then some VERY out of shape people wearing the same outfit. LOL

WOW, what a fun weekend.
It started on Friday when I got a call from my brother (he works for the production company that puts on Movement). They needed some last minute help getting all the artists riders fulfilled. I had to drive all around town buying things. First off downtown Detroit is no place to go shopping for stuff. So I drove about 15 minutes out of town to find a Walmart. Some of the weirder things I had to buy: Blow up animals (like for the pool), 4 Air horns, socks and underwear (almost every artist needed socks, and two wanted underwear, weird!!), and some high end sake. The Sake was the hardest to find. Found a bunch of cheap stuff but nothing super high end.
After I delivered that, I was asked to help at Hart Plaza putting some finishing touches. I had to deliver boxes for putting the artists gift bags together. We mostly drove around in a golf cart helping check in the vendors. It was very cool meeting Miss Detroit (google her, she is a dancer for Deadmau5, smoking hot!!)
On Saturday we stayed on my wife's sisters boat with my brother-in-law at a state park about 3/4 of a mile down the river walk from the Renaissance Center (Hart Plaza is right next to the Ren Cen). Kind of weird to see a marina in the middle of bad neighborhood. While walking down to the festival we passed a bunch of Super Cars all sticker-ed up with Gumball 3000 stickers. I guess it is some kind of rally across North America. Lots of very cool cars right on the river walk.
The festival was very cool. The wife and I had VIP all access wristbands and could go almost every where inside the festival. We met a bunch of friends from all over the country there, and my parents as well. The DJ's were awesome but the highlight was when me, my wife, and my brothers girlfriend were eating in the artists lounge and my wife was talking with a couple of dudes from Public Enemy. I asked her if she knew who that was and she had no clue. SO COOL!!
The next day was a bit boozy but still an awesome time. We did not meet Ice T and Coco, but they were like two feet from me and my buddy Matt. I stayed up way too late and then going to the casino at 5 am is never a good idea. But I only had $15.00 on me so I only lost 15 bucks!! LOL.
Monday, I realized that I am way too old to stay out all night. I was lazy for a while but finally got moving. My brother invited me back to movements closing party with one of my favorite artists (Soul Clap) as a surprise guest. But I could not go, way too tired, and have to work on Tuesday.
Well, sorry for the long run down of my weekend. But I had such a good time I wanted to share. I think that Detroit really shined this weekend. It is very cool to see a city that has so many problems really put its best foot forward and host a world renowned event.
This was our hotel for Movement!!
