Moving 90 gal tank

Hi everyone. I am moving my 90 gallon tank from an upstairs bedroom, to in a wall in my downstairs office. What's nice is I have an entire garage for equipment and tank storage. Here is my problem. I had neglected the tank until a couple months ago. For about 2 years or so I was using RO DI top off water without changing the filters in RO DI unit. So after cleaning the tank and running the light (I have upgraded to 2x 250 MH and 4x 56 actinic I developed a bg hair algae problem. I'm assuming it was from what was in the top off water I was using. Anyway I have since changed everything in the RO DI and my TDS meter is at 0. So since my tank is going to be taken apart and moved, how can I make this to my advantage with regards to the hair algae? Will just using all new saltwater be enough to starve/kill it off? Should I peroxide dip Ann the LR? Your tips appreciated

Dipping it in peroxide will kill off the hair algae. Adding macro algae in your sump (if you have one ) will help keep it from coming back.

A week or so back, I did this so several pieces. I pulled them out, poured peroxide all over them thn put back in tank. The hair algae def stumbled, but I don't think it actually killed it off. Is there a better technique I should do? There are some big pieces..... And I don't know if I can get peroxide in a 5 gal bucket! :)

I hate PMs on stuff like this...I can't be the only one wanting to know...I never heard of peroxide to clear a rock of hair algae.

Peroxide will help with the die back of HA......I mentioned this practice a while ago on here, but certain instances it might require more than 1 treatment and if your looking for something instantaneously or overnight it probably won't happen that way.....Lubek did the same thing on his setup. Just because you have a fuge with macros doesn't necessarily mean that the HA will disappear....If that's the case why wouldn't everyone just put macros in a fuge if that was a cure all.......
Flower I read about it over on the other forum and had been following it intently and mentioned it over here.....

Thanks. So since the rock will be out of the water during the transition (1-2 hrs) should I wet them down with peroxide before they sit out if the tank, or as I am putting them back in?

I have a little bottle of peroxide that I put a spray nozzle on. Pouring can be a bit messy, the sprayer gives you a little more control and spreads the peroxide a bit better.
I have used this a couple of times now (I saw Acrylic's post a while back, and I think Florida Joe also has something on it too). I took the rocks out of the tank, sprayed and scrubbed with a fish only brush, rinsed in old tank water, and repeated. Make sure you rinse off well. It took a day or two for all the algae to go away. I did this on a little nano tank (8g). I did not get every rock, so it can come back if there is still algae in the tank.
This is not a fix all by any means. But it can help you control it a lot. I am still working on cleaning up the water to lower phos and nitrates. I feel that this is the only way to truly get rid of it.
