Could you took out about 40 gallons , even for just a few minutes. That might knock it down to hopefully 400lbs or a little less. A few big guys might be able to drag that 3 inches but you are probably better off and much safer to bite the bullet and fully drain it

Well if it were me I would try any way to work around it before I tried moving 1000lbs.
But if it must be moved, I would definetely just drain it. At least over half way, before you even try.

Ive never done it but perhaps you could drain half the water and lift it enough to fit some PVC pipe under it. The pipe would make it alot easier to move by rolling it. but I don't know how practical it would be to move it three inches. Good Luck with the move.

thank you all for your help what i did was drain it about 75% of the way by putting the water into BIG tubs then lifting one end up just so i could slide the one side about 3 in then i got on the other side and did the same. all this so i could put a protein skimmer on the back of the tank.
A WARNING TO ALL NEWBES PLAN AHEAD IF YOU THINK PUTING THE TANK AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN TO THE WALL IS GOOD REMEMBER ABOUT THE FILTERS AND ANY NEW FILTER THAT YOUU MIGHT BUY AFTER THE TANK IS SETUP. Don't do what i did and leave about 2in behind the tank. Then go and buy a skimmer that needs about 6in of space. But o well live and learn i guess

I moved my 55 gallon from one side of the living room to the other without too much hassle but I did have to drain all the water into buckets.
I was able to keep all the sand in the tank and move it, again water, fish and rocks had to come out otherwise it was just too heavy.
