In the process of setting up my new 55 gallon. Here are some pics of my old tank and the new one. Nothing in the new one yet, I'll keep posting as I add the water, rock, sand, and move everyone over. Tanks are the same size length and width, the new one is a good bit taller and has a canopy that my compact florescents will fit perfectly in. Taller's good, as I have a 6 year old who can't seem to get the fact that Nemo doesn't want any of his PB&J
Quick pics of the two side-by-side, and one pic of the original tank for posterity.
Old tank setup:
Whisper 40-60 power filter
Red Sea Prizm skimmer
Powerhead with unsightly tube going to UV sterilizer and back in (never got to make it look pretty)
Odyssea 36" power compact florescent hood, 96W 12k and 96W actinic
Airstone and bubble wand, not going into the new tank
Crushed coral stubstrate
~5 lbs of live rock (basically, one small piece)
Tank population:
2 tank-raised false percula clowns
1 coral beauty angel
1 fire shrimp
2 turbo snails
1 sad bubble tip anemone
Nice bunch of green-button polyps
2 Bird's nest coral skeletons
1 other dead specimen coral that I can't recall the name of
1 medium piece of lava rock, nice cave for the shrimp
1 large piece of lava rock, archway that everyone loves swimming through
New tank setup:
Hagen Fluval 404 canister filter
Hagen 250w heater
Emperor Aquatics 12w UV sterilizer
Will reuse Prizm skimmer
Will reuse lighting
Need timer for lights (can't reach the switches when they're inside the canpoy)
Have two powerheads, one high volume and one small. Want to alternate them to create shifting currents - good or bad idea?
~30 lbs of live rock (some with some awesome growth on them already)
~40 lbs of live sand
