If i were to decide to use copper instead of hypo, how would i then transfer the fish back into the reef when treatment is complete without bringing the copper back into the display?

You have to not only drop-acclimate the fish to the new tank water, but do several exchanges afterward, then net the fish and transfer only the fish to the dt. The small amount of copper that comes along in the moisture on the fish will be negligible.

you can also use carbon to remove most of the copper after the treatment is done. This will also help to keep copper out of your DT.
