moving recommendation and tips

I have a 5.5gallon nano with 2 sexy shrimp a green clown goby some zoas, other softies, a duncan and micromussa.
The move is a hour- an hour and a half drive back to my dorm room after my one month winter break. I made the move home without any loses but the sand was stirred and water got everywhere.
-What I did the first time was drain enough water to cover the lr in a bucket.
-then i moved my coral (minus the duncan and micro), fish, and inverts to a Styrofoam box filled with tank water.
-i left too much water in the tank which caused my sand to be stirred and water went everwhere
when i got to my house i put the rock in the tank and the water and let it run for about an hour, then added everything else in. It took it a day or two to clear up and settle down and after about a week things looked better then after 2 things looked great.
My problem is i dont want my sand that stirred and spilled water and the added stress ( a lot of my coral and fish looked sickly for about a week)
So my new and improved move plan is as follows
-drain water into bucket.
-remove and individually bag fish, inverts, corals with tank water.
-place bagged livestock in Styrofoam box to help keep the temperature up.
-place rock in 5 gallon bucket and drain the rest of the tank water into the bucket.
-remove as much water as possible while still leaving about a 1/4 of an inch above the sand just enough to keep it wet.
-when i arrive at school, place the rock in the tank and fill the tank with the water from the bucket. (THIS IS WHERE I NEED ADVICE, THE ROCK LEAVES A LOT OF RESIDUE AND SEDIMENT BEHIND I DONT WANT, I NEED TIPS ON HOW TO GET AS MUCH WATER OUT AS I CAN WITH AS LITTLE WASTE AS POSSIBLE)
-let the tank run with the filter and powerhead on for about an hour as i unpack the rest of my things with the heater on and livestock bags floating
-release the livestock (inverts, fish) into the tank (DISPOSE WATER?)
-release coral after about another 30minutes-an hour(DISPOSE WATER?)
-Finish filling the tank with new water as needed
As you can see my questions are in all caps. I want to add a lot of the old water to the tank just to be safe but i also plan on adding at least a gallon of new water (on schedule with my weekly changes) but im not sure if 2-3gallons of new is too much. Over all with rock and sand i only have about 3-4gallons of water in the tank i think.
I'd love some advice guys. the move is this saturday
