So, after 9 years of renting this house, my landlord tells me that the owner of the house wants to totally renovate it and that they will not be renewing my lease. The sad thing: I had to call HIM to find out... I called to have the ******** walls painted and was met with this. I don't totally mind, as I was looking to move anyways, but I thought I would have the safety net of this house if I couldn't find anything. With a large fish tank and a pit bull (neither of which I'm willing to give up) it makes finding a new pad a little difficult. I think I'm going to buy a duplex and rent half of it out for the next two years and then I'll rent my half out when I move out west.
I figure this will be a perfect chance for me to upgrade MY digs and also the fish tank. I have until June 31st to be out of this house but if I find something before then I have no qualms about breaking my current lease. Time to start putting pen to paper and planning the new build! I was looking at 150DD but I want to be able to fit everything under the cabinet and that's just not possible with the 150DD.
I think I'm going to go with a 200DD with dual overflows. I'll probably just go with the marineland monterey stand and canopy. I considered doing custom stuff, but I can't build quality stuff and I'll have enough on my plate to be juggling steel fabricators and custom cabinet makers.
I'll set up the tank w/ another beananimal overflow, with the full siphon and open channel in one overflow and the emergency drain and return in the other (hopefully I will still be able to use my SCWD if it fits in the overflow box. I might also fill the emergency/return overflow with oolitic sand and create a small DSB in there.
Under the stand will be a 30 or 40 breeder for a sump/fuge, a 29 gallon (hopefully) for my top-off resevoir, my calcium reactor, phosphate reactor and a sealed box with my DJ strips. It's really important to me that everything fits under the stand and that it's not a mess of wires and controllers. I don't want any of my controllers on the outside of the cabinet. I might end up moving the electrical the the outside, maybe in some sort of decorative ottoman or something.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm having trouble mostly with all the wires that would be coming from the back of the stand to the DJ powerstrips. If I could figure out how to hide them then moving the electrical to the outside would definitely free up a lot of much needed space and would make this much easier for me.
