I'm ading a refugium to my setup and ditching the wet dry should I use sand or the mud that I see on websites? What's the difference what will work the best or should I use 50/50 one side mud and the other side sand? Any ideas or help would be appreciated. THANKS

Use one or the other but not a combo of both. Me personally I like the mineral mudd,, do a google on it and make your own conclusions.. I went with the MUDD because you ALREADY have sand in your tank and I liked what the Mudd had to offer.

i originally went mud, and when the inital storm cloud covered everything in my tank, i glady went back to sand when i made my refugium/sump. i went DSB and don't have to worry about anything.

I use mud for all my setups and put a 1/2 inch of broken sea shells on the bottom before I put the mud in the refugium. This gives more area for denitrifying bacteria and critters to grow. Plus, when I add the mangroves in their tanks, it gives the roots an easier place to spread. When I fill up the refugium with water, to avoid a cloud in the DT, I place a glass in the refugium and let the glass overflow so that it just pours over and doesn't disturb it too much. Then I let it settle as I work on other things and then plug it all in and change out the filter pad when it gets dirty. I say MUD......

I had the mud on my 65. IMO, it's messy. Also I had a problem with algea in that tank. Changing out the mud to DSB was ONE of the things I did to correct it. Just one part, but the algea is gone now. I believe because it has elements in it to encourage macro growth, it also encourages nuisance algea growth. I'm much happier with the DSB and wont ever use the mud again. JMO.
