murder in my tank eek

so last night i go to bed and one of my snails was on the sand, and i didnt think anything of it so i go to bed. well i wake up this morning and 2 of my blue legged hermits appear to be eating the snail. they had him upside down and were both on top of him. they are well fed however i do need to get some extra shells for them i think. are they killing the snail to get his shell?

Blue leg Hermits are cannibals......I know, I have them in my 10 gallon. The attack could be because they wanted the shell, but even if they are well fed they will kill for no reason what so ever.
Having empty shells is good....but they will still attack!
Stick with the red legs.

. They are slowly dying off though, I've got one that is friggin huge that I think is murdering and eating the rest... so soon I will just have one really big vicious snail-hermit-eating mofo. I think I'll name him Mr. T.
