Figures, I go out of town to tear apart a mcdonalds, not supposed to be back for a couple days.... 2Am my girlfriend calls me.... "theres water everywhere what do I do?" friggen protien skimmer for a reason I havent figured out yet, starts overflowing and pumping water all over the floor. about ten gallons or better, she just starts unplugging everything, I made a couple calls one of my friends made it over here at 10 am so 8 hours no heat no circulation, I just got home a few minutes ago, looks like I'm going to lose a couple things, my rare flourescing green glove polyps are recceeding. one of my brains look really bad a bunch of my palys are clenched and not reopening. 3/4 of all my zoas are looking bad. even my mushrooms look like $#!T...... If I had been home there would not have been a problem....... this is so frusterating. there is really nothing she could have done she doent know my system and I had just worked from 6am to 11pm so when she called I could barely think. hopefully my friend coming saved stuff. all my fish look good but a lot of my corals dont. I really want to swear out loud. this is hands down the worst thing to ever happen to me in my years of doing this. So a word of caution to coralife superskimmer owners, make sure they are set up in sump not hob because if they overflow HOB style they will emptey the tank onto the floor, at least down to the powerhead.

Reef I'm sorry to hear that.
And to think I was frustrated over losing my cleaner shrimp this morning.
Good luck with your corals.

with that type of skimmer i have heard people drill holes in the bottom of the cup and run an air hose to a milk jug... gives you more room for water when the skimmer does this... i have to turn my coralife down everytime i feed because it will overflow if i dont... i know a milk jug wont hold that much water though... sorry about the loss...

sorry bro.
this is something you could have never seen coming.
(just my opinion) but i think that somehow, since this isnt something you did, your corals will pull through will minimal loss.
during 1 nite, i had my powerhead fall loose and fall onto the sandbed.
cant tell you what went through my mind that morning when i saw the sand storm this produced.
it blew a hole through my 4" sand bed down to bare bottom.
it took about 2-3 days for everything to clear up-
no loss at all.
good luck man- it'll all work out.

OK here is the final casulty list for the skimmer induced catastrophy, all three of my serpent stars: dead, one polyp of rare flourescing glove:dead, one inch band of coraline algae around the top of my tank: DEAD. small frag with 6 palys on it DEAD...... GRRRRRRRR. my poor sea stars. I feel so bad about them, who knows If I will ever find another pinkish serpent star. I'm gonna wait untill after the move once the tank settles in a bit to get more. this really irks me.

Sorry for your losses. Looks like it's time to show the GF what to do should this happen again. Good luck, and there are purplish serpents here all the time in FL.
