Mushroom coral?...

I heard somewhere that mushroom corals did not need any special lighting. I have 17 watts of T8 light on my 20 gallon. Do you think I could get away with one kind of mushroom coral in my 20g?
Also, with live sand, and a few dead coral skeletons in the tank, are calcium and magnesium test kits VITAL? I don't think I would have to test for those paremeters if the tank is well established when I add the coral, and if I have good, stable water quality.

They will probably be OK. I had some live rock on a covered tub with a powerhead for 5 months and still had multiple mushrooms when I finally put it in the tank. If you are just going to have mushrooms and do regular water changes, then no you shouldn't have to test calcium or magnesium. Are you going to keep other softies?

Thanks alot!

I don't think I will be keeping any other soft corals for now, but sometime I am wanting to turn my tank into a reef aquarium by upgrading the lighting and all.
