I got a rock with 3 mushroom heads or pieces or whatever yeaterday.
Let me be the first to say that i know absolutely nothing about corals but i started researching mushrooms. The guy at the lfs gave it to me for 4 dollars. It looked horrible when i got it but in the course of 24 hours it looks great. It was all closed in at first but now its spread out and looks very healthy. I just wanna know anything and everything about these. Also its a red mushroom, looked like poop brown when i got it prob due to poor lighting at first. I have researched it as well but i want to know what works for other people.

Mushrooms are generally easy to keep. There's really nothing special you have to do for them. With good water conditions and lighting they should do just fine. As long as they are opening up and seem happy, then they are fine. Some of my mushrooms like to eat flake food or shrimp, but it really depends on the type of mushroom. They are one of the easiest corals to keep.

That makes me happy, especially for 4 dollars. I heard they reproduce or branch apart to make more. Any info on that?

When the mushrooms multiply they generally do it 1 of 2 ways.
grow a second mouth and split, or the mushroom will move and leave baby mushrooms where it once was. $4 bucks was a good deal for you. Are you looking to add other corals to your tank?

yeah but not very soon. I just ordered my t5ho set up for my 55. The tank should be done cycling in another week or more likely 2. The 55 is gonna be my reef. Also the mushroom is starting to get some green dots on it. kind of like the dots are glowing. I just noticed the dots today. I think the lfs had them in one of there tanks accidentally and when i inquired about them they were like 4 bucks and its yours. lol.
