Mushroom Propagation

I have 3 types of mushrooms in the tank, some nondescript blue/purple that were hitchhikers, beginning as maybe 6 small heads, some red/blue dot and frilly green that both started as a single head and were charitable donations from member T316 many months ago.
The blue/purple have reproduced via budding. One head detached from the rock and is now budding out in the sand. The red/blue dotted one reproduced via budding also. The green frilly however reproduced via splitting into two. Now one of those has just split.
This green frilly was in the tank for maybe 6 months before it decided to split, now it has split twice in 6 weeks or so.
I've read that both budding and splitting are a normal propagation method, but is it usually that a mushroom does one and not the other, or can a particular mushroom do either/or? Just curious.
All the above can be seen here. The green frilly just split again this past weekend.

-yeah, yeah...diatoms...
