The link I have posted is to a thread that evolved into a discussion as to the classification of Carallimorpharians more specifically mushrooms. Are they really corals? I think it would be any interesting discussion if we can get others involved.

Such a discussion takes a bigger brain than mine...but as I understand it..NO, they are not true corals
...but who really cares??? They are great in a reef tank, they are as beautiful as any coral and some are better looking and have better color. They are a nice addition to any reef tank.

From what I have read, the taxonomy of the various species is in a state of flux, and will probably continue to change. the final answer may come from DNA analysis. what they are called today..may not be tomorrow.
But flower is right..they are just beautiful additions to any tank coral or not.

You ae going to make me think??? And explain it...

I read they lack a skeleton structure..and or they don't have a group of zoo something things growing as a colony. A SPS has a skeleton..rock base I guess, and Xenia has a bunch of tiny critters that live as buddies to survive.
A mushroom has no skeleton, and it stands alone and has no buddies it needs to depend on for it to exist.
Hows that?

I am sorry, I had read and participated on the thread before, and did not go back...now that I have..revisited it just now... I see you posted a very technical sounding post..WAY
over my head.
The most I could get out of it is that my thinking of a zoo thing group is outdated. That there are experts who say now that there are single organisms that are coral.
But the list and "branch" mentioned by BIG does not agree, he says and I quote: The word Corallimorpharia meaning is "False Corals"
That leaves me with the following deduction...
