mushrooms shrinking away... why why why

I've had my 55 gal tank set up for quite a while with no problems till now but my mushroom corals are shrinking away to nothing the bubble are bursting and the corals are getting smaller. I have two perc, clowns and one cardinal fish, several asst. clams and crabs,all seem well. I had some bubble type coral(about the size and shape of green peas) that would float off and recolonize elsewhere, now they're gone.
The water temp has climbed propably due to the season temp. climbing, and a lot more bad algae blossoming on glass and sand bottom.The algae is thick enough to be able to be vacuumed off the sand,it's brown and ugly.I could try cutting down on the lighting times to controll it but this won't be good for everything else.I haven't changed anything why is this happening? could the lights be the problem? I am using compact florescents and one actinic, had them for approx 9 months. What should I look for? I dont want to lose what I already had. Help Hawk

Change bulbs, do large waterchange, adding trace elements might also be of use, could also try some carbon if you dont already use it as there could be some chemical warfare going on between corals. What are your nitrate and phosphate readings like?

Hi hawkster1, I'll help with what I can. But first some basic questions.
How long is awhile?
What are your water parameters? Real numbers (not the common everything is good answer)
Do you use RO/DI for your salt mix and top off?
Algea is usually a dead give away that the water has issues or the lighting is improper (old bulbs or natural sunlight).
several asst. clams
Tridacnas or the cleaner type? What kind of corals other than the mushrooms do you have?

My mushrooms have also begun to get smaller and I see them drift to a different place. I was not able to do a water change every week for 3 weeks straight, then my stock pump stopped working so that caused cyano algae to grow like crazy and finally last week I got the new pump, and I cleaned all green and cyano algae and took it out. I did a 40% water change last week and a 40% water change this week. Hope the one mushroom coral left on the rock will be bigger. All my other corals are doing fine it is just my green mushroom coral that is really small and most of them are alive in different part of the tank because they detached from the rock and floated away. I have another red type of mushroom coral (I think its called bullseye) and those are doing good.
I have 1 BTA
1 elegance coral
1 frogspawn
1 sun coral
1 fox coral
1 brain coral
1 plate coral (short tenticle)
1 cup coral
zoo's
star polpyps
1 clam, the type that takes out nitrates
1 clownfish
I have no snails or ever did.
My tank has been up and running close to about 7months I would say.
My tank specs:
24gal nano
ammonia = 0
nitrate = o
nitrite = 0
ph = 8.2
salinity is 1.024-1.025
Lighting: 150watt metal halides, and 36watt of PC light.

:help: Thanks for everbody's help but I have another question; I plan on changing the lighting as suggested, along with a water change,but my question is are the mushrooms dead or in a dormant state waiting for a reberth? I know the anenomes are alive cause I can still see them there just pint sized now but do mushrooms shrink up inside rock soas not to be seen? Waiting for happy news from anybody......Hawkster
