Well been into saltwater for about 2 months and its already hooked me.
So i decided to turn the FW tank i had into SW. I didnt get a before picture even though i told myself i was going too, but by the time cleaned it out and everything i had forgot to take a picture.
Cleaned with warm water and what im sure is dead live sand added. Heater mounted, new lights added, aquaclear 70 filter mounted.

water added and filter started.

30lbs of live rock and a cup of LS added from an 7+ year established tank.

Welll its been since friday october 23rd and just got the Diatom bloom. CUC is going to be added possibly tomorrow.

Make sure your tanks fully cycled before you add anything. I would add some more LR to build up more places to put corals. Whats the dimention of your tan? I have what looks to be a 20g tall FW cichlid tank at the moment and I was thinking of converting it when I get some extra cash. Also buy a refractometer, the hydrometers arent accurate at all.
I'll be watching! I want to see what ideas I can get off of you

Yeah I have one of those also and 3 other cichlids in there. Its been running for about a year now lol. Salt water is so much more addicting lol, and so much mor eexpensive
You could have evenb used tap water to cycle your tank rather than throwing the shrimp in there. Thats what I used to cycle my 10g and it was fine.
What did you buy for your cuc?

They wont take care of that..
that will just go away on its own. Its caused by the silica in the rock or soemthing like that, and when the silica runs out the diatom will die off.

well to be honest it was covering the sand in a light coating and i was watching it the hermits mow it down like a field of grass with cows grazing in it.

I dont know then. They might have just stirred it, so it looked like they ate it. Who knows! Just know thats its normal to have it in a new tank and it'll eventually go away.
