My 48 gallon tall reef column

Here are a few shots of my 48 gallon tall. It's been up and running for a year. The rockwork (40 lbs) is a tower I created by drilling the rock and stacking the pieces on pvc supports. Other equipment: 150 watt Sunpod HQI lighting, ASM G1x skimmer, two Vortech pumps set on anti-sync pulse and fluidized reactors for carbon and rowaphos. The upper corals are typical SPS, LPS and softies, with more non-photosynthetic coral and inverts lower down. I feed the tank 30 ml daily of Reef Nutrition's Rotifeast and Shellfish diet, along with some other ingredients, via a dosing pump. Fish include a pair of ORA stubby false percs, 6 Chromises, and a Sunburst Anthias. Enjoy!

Thanks guys. Premilove, only the upper third of the tank has photosynthetic corals, so the 150 watt lighting is plenty. The Sunpod sits just a few inches above the water, so most of the photosynthetic corals are within 12" - 14" of the light.

it sure isn't but twin vortech's are capable of at least 4000gph and the halide is good for the depth he keeps the photosynthetic corals so the tank isn't by any means deficient on either end. i dont normally like tall narrow tanks but this ones cool!

I thought they where korlias but vortech's just make me drool evan more. do you feel that halides have more light penetration at the same wattage at T5's?

Fishkid, I got the tank at Petsmart of all places. The dimensions are 20" x 18" x 31" tall. The base dimensions are the same as the oceanic 30 gallon cube, so I bought the stand that is made for the oceanic.
D-man, it's really easy to drill rock. All you need is a good drill and a concrete bit, which you can get at any hardware store. I used a 1/2" bit and 1/2" pvc pipe. I've never used T-5 lighting so I'm not really familiar with their light penetration, but I'm sure someone on the board does.

This tank is totally awesome!!!
I didn't even know there was such a thing as a column tank!!!
It's wicked. I want one!!
My hats off to you dude!
