I upgraged from my 45 and made alot of DIY stuff on my 75 about 3 months ago. I made about 80% of the rock, the stand and the sump/fuge. I got about another 100# of DIY curing to put in the fuge. So what do you guys think of my budget system? The rock in the green circles is DIY.

The rock looks good, and I like the sump design. How did you do the rocks? I think I remember an old thread about someone casing rock in flour or corn starch or something. Anyway, nice!

Thanks I made the rocks out of crushed oyster shell, and type II portland cement with playsand molds. I used bread and pasta to make holes and caves.

great job on the system, especially the sump room. The only constructive advice I can offer is to add GFI electrical outlets in the sump room, the current plugs resemble Clark Griswold's Christmas light set up.

heh, yea, that's a little tight in there. very nice diong the responsible thing and making your own rock!
look into wiremold's 3' outlet strip, might open up some space around your electrical outlets.

At least his cords are hung, that is more than most people do. I have my sump and fuge under my stairway too. Works out very nice for adding extra stuff, plenty of room, also keeps the noise level down. Great job so far, keep up the nice work. I do agree though, GFCI's are a must.

I always picture my electric meter spinning out of control and the city having to switch to nuclear power when my lights fire up on the tank.

You don't realize how much you just helped you tank out by making a "sump room." When I moved my whole under the tank set up to the basement water changes became so much easier, thus, more frequent. Also, spilling some water on a concrete floor right next to a floor drain doesn't hurt as bad as the carpet.
