my alk is high

Well im not really worried about it to much but my alk is like 12 dkh and i want it at about 10 to 11 but im just gonna try to let it go down naturally i know its ok where it is now though!!!
my macro alage is also starting to take offf quick, and im getting a Huge cyano algae break out in my reef ref, and a lil 1 in my fowlr ref
Finally starting to see pods crawling around in my reef sump, but i havent seen any in my 125 gl sump
1 thing though i do have some turbo calcium and i was wondering if everytime i add water when i get more demanding coral should i add a teaspoon of it to my ro water???
would it help or hurt!!!

that's not really too high, imo. the macro algae should choke that stuff off in no time. is this a new tank. definately don't add Ca if you think your alk is high already.

What kind of test are you using? If it's a Salifert test, it's probably a bad test, so try a different company and test again. I too thought my alk was way high, 14dkh, but turns out my test was bad. I've been talking with a representative from Salifert and they are trying to figure out what happened. You can send me a pm and I'll let you know where to learn more about this issue. As far as I know it's just the Alk test that's been giving people problems. So before you do anything, get another test other than Salifert and test again.

Everyones water is different even after a RO unit . I was dealing with high alk [14-16] and found it was my salt . I used coalife for years until this year and got a RO unit . Then my alk went high and tired a few different salts . Reef Crystals dropped it a little [12.8] , but wasn`t happy with that . So I tried Red Sea Coral Pro and that made a difference and dropped it to 10 . Also with all the other salts except R.C. and R.S. I had to buff the ph from 7.5 to 8.4 . With Reef Crystals and Red Sea I didn`t have to . Now since nobodies water is the same some salts do better or worse for one person or the other .
