The vodka I use to feed my aquaripure nitrate filter is only 35.5 % alcohol is this the strength to use? Is this vodka OK?
80 proof, 40% alcohol is all I have ever seen and I know that is what the Aquaripure instructions recommend, keep in mind what is going on inside the filter to make it work.
The vodka feeds carbon to the bacteria to make it bloom big time, and you tank water passes thru it very slow...the now super hungry numbers of bacteria consumes the nitrates out of the water and then drips back into the main water system. The lower alcohol then would only mean you have an Aquaripure filter not working at 100% of it's ability....but it still will work to bring nitrates down.
How long have you had your filter? Are your nitrates going down? Contact the manufacturer, maybe you can inject more vodka to make up the lower %....
I think you pay as much for 35.5% as you would for 40%...so why not purchase the 40% in the first place? I always purchase a 5th of vodka ( I am not a vodka drinker at all) I have 2 Aquaripure filters, and it seems to last forever. So it isn't a big money drain.
