My Blue Hippo Tang

I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my Tang. It changed from a royal blue to a light/faded/pale blue. All water tests seem to be fine. Not much information available for these symtoms. Not much of an appetite for frozen greens and pellets. Comes out once in a while but seems mostly to stay in it's shelter. Breathing seems to be rapid. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
C.

Hey I am not a pro but it sounds like it is stressed. Did you just get it? They stress so easily. I lost my first one. I am looking to buy a replacement soon. Also they can get ich pretty easily due to stress. Mine turned that color you mentioned just coming home from the store. You might want to make sure it has a lot of places to hide. They tend to be a nervous fish. What else do you have in your tank? Is something else tormenting it? They are grazers too. You might want some algae sheets to place in the tank so it can graze throughout the day. That is what I know about them.

im having the same problem as well for the past few weeks, and today i noticed a big bulge in one of his eyes, anyone know what this may be and any treatment for it?

Man I had some damsels that were MEAN. They were killing each other. I took those bad boys back. Not a pro...but you have some more agressive damsels with a peaceful hippo tang. It could be happening at night when you don't know it. Try turning out the lights and watching.

I will keep a look out. Thanks for the heads up. Never thought about night time. I got a Domino that's pretty fiesty to the others. But never when the lights are on have I seen him mess with my Hippo. Thanks.

How long have you had your Tang? Can you tell me more about your Tang? And last time you did a water change?

What sized tank is this? Dominoes are one of the meaner damsels. It sounds like stress to me as well. When you turn off the lights at night keep a lamp or something on in the room, so that you can see in the tank, but it is still pretty dark in the tank. Watch the behavior that goes on and let us know. Don't let them notice you.

Hm, two clowns and a domino with a nine month old hippo is a bit stressful in a 50 gallon tank. Hippos grow very large and are active swimmers. If the damsel was not in there then he would be good for a little while longer. The tank is way too small, the added aggravation is not helping him.

Your absolutley correct. Domino and Zebra damsels will be going back to the store soon. I turned the lights out and noticed the Zebra is the one finning the Hippo out of it's shelter. They have got to go!! When I bought the Hippo he was small and my intent is to upgrade to a 100-120 gallon tank in the very near future. This will allow me to take the next step. I just didn't want to crash and burn in the beginning.
Thanks for all your help,
C.
