Long Stringy White Tentacled Anemone....
I don't get it, my lighting is fine its the solaris stuff. It gets fed about once every week. Yet it has had just long tentacles and has been more or less what I would consider bleached for a while. I want it to have BTs like it used to and to be darker in color...any suggestions? It has been in the same place for ever, it has a host...i don't know

Not every BTA will actually have BT's. Some will just be long and stretched out. Alot of people agree that the BT's come when it is trying to protect itself. So the lack of them might actually be a good thing for you as it is comfortable in your tank! If it has a dark color to it that is a good thing. If it is not roaming around your tank then it is most likly satisfied with everything. If it was bleached a bit then it will most likly start to darken up and look better the longer it is in its spot If lighting is over all adaquate!

I agree with peef about the tenticals shapes...as far as the bleaching, Im not sure about the LED lighting and if its been proven effective long term as adequate for reef animals...hopefully some one else can help with that. If you recently added the lights, then perhaps there was acclimation shock that cause the anemone to bleach....
perhaps others experiances with those lights might help with your question.

Nah I have had the lights for more than a year and other corals are showing excellent growth. Just give it time I guess. Good to know about the BTs though.

Hmmm, I have never heard about LED lights used as a main source! I am intrigued. What wattage and stuff are they? Do they work? Where did you find them?

Solaris are an LED light that gives all the benefits of Metal Halides without all the heat. They have a 50,000 hr life span. The new I4 series produces PAR light output levels equal to a 400W MH 15k. They are very nice lights. What series do you have???....My husband and I are looking at getting these lights for our 185g. What are you feeding your BTA.

Your little guys might be hungry if you arent feeding it anything other then that. You need to feed some DT or some krill or a little bit of something else. I feed my tank DT every few days and then my anemones get krill pieces every 5 days as well and everyone seems to be very happy.

In reality anemones dont need to be fed at all if your lighting is adequate and your water chemistry is good, that includes calc, alk, idoine, mag etc... supplemental feeding is just fun to do and can be an imunity booster for them. If you want to add nutrients to anything you feed them then I would suggest getting a bottle of Super Selco or Selcon and soak the food in that before you give it to them. This will add omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins. Although they wont turn down a meal if offered they dont need it, and their survival shouldnt be based on you offering it food.
